The long-running battle between Frenchman Philippe Maestracci and the powerful Nahmad family over a $20m Modigliani has bubbled back this month. “Seated Man with a Cane” (1918) is claimed by Maestracci who says he is the heir of Oscar Stettiner, a Jewish art dealer from whom the painting was looted by the Nazis.
