News Hour: The broadcast of December 7: ‘Injustice must weigh more heavily in Nazi looted art’.

Injustice must weigh more heavily in return of Nazi looting’.

It is “fundamentally wrong” to include the interests of museums or other owners when considering whether art looted by Nazis should be returned to the heirs of the original Jewish owners. Restoration of injustice weighs more heavily, concludes an evaluation committee in a critical report presented today to Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven.

At the minister’s request, the evaluation committee has looked at the policy as implemented by the restitution committee since 2001. It consists of lawyers, a historian and an art historian. They determine whether or not an art object is returned to its heirs after a claim has been made.

Commission chairman Jacob Kohnstamm is a guest this evening.
